About Us

The Word Co. handles everything from marketing material and press releases — and the PR campaign, if needed — to feature articles, newsletters, speeches and books. With a background in ag science, journalism and PR, Samantha Schelling set up The Word Co. in 1995 to service companies who didn’t have a full-time need for in-house communication skills.

Today, the business services a range of on-going and one-off clients, across a range of industries, with internal and external communications. Our network of designers, printers, web hosters, IT tech-heads, print finishers and transcribers, means we can take your job from brief to finished project.

From a 200-word article on pasteurisation to hard-cover books for the Olympic Co-Ordination Authority (and others), we craft well-targeted words.

About The Principal

Why we’re good at this writing gig:
  • as a child Samantha read the dictionary for fun
  • we believe using language correctly aids and enhances communication
  • good communication is like good manners: no one has to "guess" what’s happening and everyone is on the same page
  • as an adult Samantha reads the dictionary for fun (hey, it beats doing the laundry!)
  • we have some pieces of paper on the wall that say we can write and deliver integrated marketing programmes, tell a cow from a sheep and spell
  • The Word Co. has been going since 1995, helping businesses who need writing/PR services, which means we’ve been doing what we really enjoy since 1995!

Samantha is a member of the PRIA and Women’s Network Australia.

About Our Clients

Our clients cover a range of industries, are typically SMEs or micro businesses (with the occasional large corporate) and need targeted communication skills — just not full-time, in house.
Most of them are into recycling, many of them find a chuckle in our "word of the moment", some of them like turtles, lots of them like cricket or tennis, and all of them appreciate good communication — even though they might not always know the difference between when a verb should be conjugated in a plural or singular sense.

Using our specialist skills lets you use your own in the most effective way: building and enhancing your business.
